Just remembered the one public web site that I depend on for part of my living is our web shop. It is still in version 1 because while I converted to EWB2, I haven't had time to do the thorough test, though there is a version on the web for a client that uses the new code. Version 2 is all responsive etc, but version 1 gets orders most days and is quite reliable.

You can play with it at https://dev.banxia.com/ which is the test server so it might not always be live.

The most interesting stuff is all behind the scenes in the admin part which you can't see.

I have looked at the EWB sites and none of them are really great looking.  As Tim says EWB is not designed for great looking websites, but rather for web applications.

I have been using a web development app call Wysiwyg Web Builder, which is a drag and drop web builder.  It is reasonably priced and works well for me. http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/index.html

Hi Godfrey

Just had a look.

*Assuming* you are using both EWB and Wysiwyg Web Builder:

How well does it work with / integrate  with EWB ?

Can the combination be used to produce both Good Looking and Data Capable sites?

Have you any examples you can point too?

Regards

Kamran

Hi Godfrey,

Regarding the website www.brightwebdesign.co.uk what is your honest opinion based on your comment above? I'm intrigued to know as I might be able to make a few tweaks to make it better.

Thanks

Great looking is independent of "web sites vs web applications". My web shop is fine, but the new version looks better because EWB2 provides more options. But it is also down to you as a designer to make it look good. I know from my own current project that you can start off with a rather scruffy looking project, and then when you put a moment of work into it, you can have it looking quite lovely. All through use of the styles that allow you to theme your project. EWB can be as bad or as good as any other tool - it is the same browser capabilities for both.

Matthew Jones:  Thanks for showing a test web site and it looks pretty good so far.  I know that is in beta but the flow is pretty good.  Now that is entirely in EWB ?

On another note, the wysiwygwebbuilder.com looks very promising.  I haven't had a chance to download to test it against Dreamweaver but it looks really simple as well as the cost involved is pretty good.  I did not see whether I can generate PHP but also was wondering if I can pull in a web site done with another tool to see if there are any issues.

I found out about WYSIWYG Web Builder somewhere on this forum several years ago and it does a great job for me.

There are many You Tube Videos on how to really use it well.

Here is a page built with WYSIWYG with an EWB frame in the center for payment calculations!

Walter, that even looks awesome and you are telling me that you use the WYS product with EWB embedded ?

Richard:
I would suggest:
(1) The fading in of the text every time a tab/page is loaded. Running it once would suffice. Variables named bolRunOnceTab1(to 3) in the OnShow event can be an easy way to control.

(2) The icons to the top middle do not appear. I am seeing two rectangular boxes. Clicking thru I am seeing one going to Twitter and the other Facebook.

(3) Change the Cursor to crPointer on the links.

(4) Maybe slide in the panels to give them some animated life.

Yep, good idea.

Interesting. I didn't realise they weren't working. Thanks for that, I need to read-up about deploying font-awsome fonts Wink

Yes, I had actually thought about that myself. Thanks for pointing it out.

Good idea. Thanks
