Hi Tim

Great news..and I hope you are well.

Regarding pricing , I guess perceived value of what one is getting for their money always differs for different people.
My opinion is that Web Builder is excellent value whatever the upgrading scenario.

However for existing Active EWB Subscribers: You might want to consider adding an additional 12 months to the EWB expiry date. That might help to alleviate the difference in perceived upgrade value.

I can't wait to try the beta.!

Best regards

Kamran

Elevate Web Builder 3 is finally getting close to beta, and I've got a new blog post up about the finalized upgrade pricing:

<< Software pricing, as with all product pricing, has many dimensions. Affinity can be cheap because they will sell millions, and do. Specialist software cannot achieve that sort of volume, so must spread the cost over fewer customers. I suspect the true cost per customer is probably many thousands of dollars, but as with any product, you have to price to what the market will bear.>>

Exactly.  The point I was making was that not all software is priced from $800 - $1500, so without details the comparison made no sense.

<< WebBuilder is specialist software, and for most of us, will save a lot of time and effort making web sites. That productivity is worth a lot to most of us. >>

And to me too.  That's why I have always renewed my subscription.

<< The delay might make us feel it is more expensive, but we have had support and maintenance updates in that period too. >>

That's relative.  For me there have been no updates since my last renewal.  And no, it's not the delay that makes it seem more expensive.  The delay, which is stretching to a couple of years, is completely irrelevant.  It's the difference in price between someone who has an active subscription and someone who hasn't.  The person with an active subscription pays more.  I wasn't complaining about the price - I was pointing out the difference and saying that I thought it was strange.

<< There is a tool I use that does LINQ debugging. It has an annual cost, and for me is well worth the money as I use it all the time. But a colleague doesn't code as much, and it isn't worth it for him. But he has other tools that he pays for that I don't. You simply have to judge if it meets your needs for the money.>>

Yes I have a long list of tools that I renew each year, including many Delphi components that cost a lot more than EWB to renew.  I also do graphic design and 2D animation.  Many of those tools cost a lot more than EWB.

What's bad is some tools I have used in the past but no longer renew didn't even release any updates during the subscription term, or they only release bug fixes (which I don't class as updates).

<< In the scheme of things, WebBuilder is cheap for what you get. Whether it has enough value for "you" is another matter.>>

Yes it is very cheap in comparison to a lot of other products on the market.  EWB has always had value for me.  But "you" are completely missing the point.  The point I was making was the difference between the amount an active subscriber and non-active subscriber has to pay.  Again, it's not a complaint.  I will pay the "upgrade fee" because I love Tim's products and find them very useful.  I just don't understand the difference in pricing - it's as simple as that.

Again, re-read my original post.  I said I found the difference in price between an active subscriber and non-active subscriber STRANGE.

<< However for existing Active EWB Subscribers: You might want to consider adding an additional 12 months to the EWB expiry date. That might help to alleviate the difference in perceived upgrade value. >>

I agree.  A good thing to do, IMHO, would be to extend any existing subscription period by 12 months, rather than to just cancel it.  So if you had 6 months left on your subscription period and then upgraded, you will have 6 months + 12 months, equalling 18 months.

Me too!!

if upgrade includes first year subscription it makes sense and there
might be additional special cases when ones subscription comes due (or
just did recently) relative to upgrade being announced.

Emailing sales with your specific case is best here

Yeah thanks Raul.  Good advice.  I've done that.

BTW, to all concerned I wasn't complaining about the price, just responding to Richard's post about the difference he noticed.
