Thread IDE Form Designer bottom toolbar alignment

Hi All

Had EWB for less than a day and already managed to deploy to the
Internet a test 'data submission request form' .. that actually works.
Nice one, Tim.

But is there a reason why the form designer's bottom statusbar/toolbar
is right aligned instead of left aligned?

On my 4:3 monitor it was only by accident that I manged to find the 7
left-most icons (by shrinking the Project Manager panel to a sliver.

Personally I would prefer to see those 7 items at the expense of the
two (blank) right-most sections of the bar.   But a means to scroll or
otherwise view 'hidden' items would seem to be a good idea - when time
allows.   Surprised

Cool, thanks. Smile

Actually, I'm going to left-align this due to this issue being mentioned
quite a bit.  During development I just assumed that most developers were
using widescreen monitors, but you know what they say about "assuming"...
Wink

Thanks,

Thanks .. and absolutely.
I am saving up all my questions in the expectation that the release
Help will answer them.

Is this still on the ToDo list?  It does not seem to be changed in the
July 3 build.

Actually, when I looked at this earlier I changed it so that the status
portion was the portion that was always "sacrificed" first, followed by the
toggle button, followed by the rest.  It seemed to be more consistent that
way.

The basic issue here is that the EWB IDE works best with a widescreen
monitor, so anything less is going to pose issues that will be best served
by simply toggling off the project manager or dataset manager instead of
trying to get the form designer/code editor to sacrifice real estate.

OK, I will start saving up for a widescreen monitor.

Malcolm,

That's not quite what I said - I said it works *best*, I didn't say that it
was impossible to make work with something less.

What resolution are you actually using - 1024x768 ?

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Sorry, Tim, I should have aded a smiley.
I'm actually using 1280x1024
It works OK if I shrink the width of the PM/DM
But if a widescreen monitor falls off a lorry I will 'rescue' it.   Surprised

I like what you have done with the Help so far .. don't stop working on
it to reply to this.  Surprised

Just to join in on this, I hadn't even noticed the buttons down there - they are
pretty much gone. I have my primary monitor at 1280 x 1024 and have the IDE on that,
and my web browser and other displays on my bigger 24" monitor. There are also two
information sections that don't have anything there, and the position and size
panes could reduce to fit. But I'd suggest that it should be multi-row. The show
code/form button is not visible to me either.

Actually, since I'm making suggestions (feel free to punt them into the next
release!) I find the online manual unusable as-is too, due to the space constraint.
The pages are not word-wrapped to fit, and the index needs to be fairly wide to fit.
I looked for a way to "un-dock" it, but couldn't find it. I'd want to put it on the
other monitor so I can reference it, and ideally have it completely separate so
that the focus doesn't bring it to the front.

I don't know what docking component is in use, but Delphi works fine in the same
space, and if I need more space I will un-pin the manager so that it "hides" and
only appears fully when I move the mouse over it.

Operating better in a 1280x1024 space would be great.
