The problem was caused by the DBISAM Database Server not releasing database handles after a query has been executed, closed, and then un-prepared. After a bit of time, the number of database handles allocated exceeds the internal 512 database handle limit. This was introduced in the 64-bit server architecture changes in 4.33 B1.
