Thread "Admin Only" Mode

I know I mentioned this before al long time ago, but was curious if the new
ElevateDB would have some capability to block out all non-admin users, but
allow admin users to connect.

I ran into the situation again today where I needed to close all server
sessions, but before I could get in as admin and start any process that
required exclusive access people would get back in. Very frustrating when
your 3,000 miles away from the file server and network. And of course the
local IT staff had no control either.

Pardon my typos. My newsgroup editor does not syntax highlight or find
grammatical errors.

I use Thunderbird as both mail and newsgroup reader and can highly
recommend it. It is free and works great, including spell checker.

As far as administration concerned, you can do it like this:
1. Connect as admin
2. Ask them to disconnect - wait till they all are
3. Stop the server
4. Change number of allowed connections to 1
5. Start the server, do the work, stop the server
6. Change number of allowed connections back to normal
that's it. I'm not sure how to make #2 happen though Wink.
Maybe you can just stop the server and let them suffer Wink

Eureka! That will work.

Thanks Michael. I never thought about doing that with the server. I have
done a similar procedure with file-sharing, but this process didn't come to
mind for servers.

It doesn't right now, but it certainly can at some point.
