Trying to create a table with a bit of RI. On clicking OK I get an error ElevateDB Error #700 An error was found in the statement at line 8 and column 66 (Expected column name but instead found )) This may be really useful but for the fact that I have no idea what the sql was its talking about - I'm shown absolutely nothing Roy Lambert |

Sorry no. Not unwilling just have no idea - I had to go through a lot of iterations here. I'm not so bothered about the error as about the fact that it references a position in a lump of sql code that I've never seen and never will see. I suggest either a "blast somethings gone wrong" error message or at least lets see the sql Roy Lambert |

<< I suggest either a "blast somethings gone wrong" error message or at least lets see the sql >> When you exit the Alter Table dialog, the SQL window for the database being used will have the SQL in it that was generated by the Alter Table dialog. If you click inside the SQL memo control, you can move up and down between the various SQL statements generated by using the Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down keys. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

So it does - how's about a button "jump to sql" when an error message is given? Roy Lambert |

Checking this out again the only way I can get to see the SQL which might give me a clue as to what's wrong is to close the create table dialogue - not exactly good. Second there are two places where there is an sql tab - session and database. Session tab seems only to show the erroneous sql whilst database shows both. The one on the session is not the last sql its definitely the last one with an error. I suggest an sql tab on the create/alter table dialogue. Roy Lambert |

Tim Young [Elevate Software] Elevate Software, Inc. timyoung@elevatesoft.com | Roy,
<< So it does - how's about a button "jump to sql" when an error message is given? >> Well, we don't want to close the dialog and throw out all of the work that you've done, for starters. Secondly, the table dialog shouldn't generate any improper SQL that would require such a jump. I'm not sure what caused the SQL that you posted to be generated since I can't replicate it here and you haven't indicated what steps you took to get there. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

<< Checking this out again the only way I can get to see the SQL which might give me a clue as to what's wrong is to close the create table dialogue - not exactly good. >> It's only for the purposes of having a copy of the created SQL. Except in cases where there's a bug in the EDB Manager SQL generation, you won't need it for debugging an SQL error. << Second there are two places where there is an sql tab - session and database. Session tab seems only to show the erroneous sql whilst database shows both. The one on the session is not the last sql its definitely the last one with an error. >> I'll check this out. The session SQL tab should not show SQL from the database. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Sorry, I've tried but can't manage to replicate this particular error. Roy Lambert |
