Thread Configure ODBC Connection Issue

Tara

Our company purchased the ODBC driver to be able to access the data of software we use that has an ElevateDB back end.  I'm following the instructions I have, starting the 32bit ODBC manager since I am on Windows 7 64bit. But i'm a little lost.I've installed the ODBC driver on my laptop.  The data resides in a shared folder on a windows 2008 server.  I've tried it two ways

(1) Going through the wizard, i'm selecting "local" then, browsing to the config folder under the shared folder for the applications data, entering a username and password  (Administrator/EDBDefault), but the drop down list for the database selection is blank.

(2) selecting "remote" in the wizard, putting in the Windows 2008 server name or ip address (tried both) and same credentials.  I don't even get the box for choosing a db.  I get a "connection was forcibly closed by remotIe host" error.

Can someone point me in the right direction??  I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong here.  The "ElevateDB Server" application isn't running on my laptop or the remote server because that's not something that the software we purchased does. Does it need to be running somehow?  Or shouldn't I be able to use the "local" setting to get right to it by getting in the config folder.
