Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | I'm nearing the end of my battle to obtain a PPI refund (for the non-UK amongst us that's where the bank decided to charge payment protection insurance on my domestic credit card without me wanting it or it being applicable) and its only been two years so far
I have statements for 2004 - 2007 (at which point I moved banks and credit card). The bank claims to not have any data before this but after pressure from the Financial Ombudsman (FO) came up with a start date for the card in 1994. They have finally come up with a calculation taking my redress back to 1994 but have calculated the amount owning based on a spending pattern of me spending less money each month prior to 2000. My comment to the FO was that this simply gave the bank the opportunity to reduce their liability (although they told me it was "fair"). The reason for this post is to see if anyone has an algorithm (or even some code) I can to cast the data backwards and come up with a more realistic number? My guess is that if the bank based the redress on a simple average I'd get between £200 & £500 more (greedy aren't I) but I'd like a more impressive method that will confuse the Financial Ombudsman as well. For information, and to encourage anyone else in the same position to keep on fighting, the financial bit of the saga goes: PPI on the statements I still have: £290.21 Original offer: £251.33 Revised offer after FO involvement: £297.00 Next offer after I kept complaining: £688.50 (included an extra £100 compensation) ditto £850.52 Current: £957.46 Interestingly enough at each stage the FO representative (I've had 3 so far none of which has been an ombudsman) has told me that the offer is fair and reasonable Roy Lambert |
