Will you please sell or even give your newgroup software to Embarcadero.

Whilst theirs may not be the biggest pile of poo I've encountered its pretty horrible.

Its frequently off line, screws up its reference list (maybe as a side effect of allowing editing) and often sends me malformed headers with no bodies.

Their latest is the XOVER list is stuffed (looks like nothing newer than c3 days ago), the NEWNEWS command works, but only if you submit the date as yymmdd not yyyymmdd

Your's is just lovely - it just works apart from when the hardware goes up in smoke.

Off now to decide wether to change newsreaders or patch mine.

Actually I think I'll just give up - the stupid thing has now deleted my last post from its own website!!!!!!!

After a couple of days I idly attempted to access the NGs via the
developer network and hit a page claiming the whole thing was
undergoing planned maintenance.

If that was the case you might have expected an earlier intimation in
announcements, etc, as well as some indication of the duration and
maybe even some juicy comments about the expected benefits.  But I
found nothing.  Surprised

While one can now connect, it does not seem to be back in business yet.

I have not had much trouble with the ngs myself - except when they have
been down.  (XanaNews)

I would have never noticed, just thought things were quiet, if it wasn't for the fact that I'd just posted a response to someone and whilst I connected nothing was downloaded. I emailed the guy and he's replied by email and refers to a post on the NGs but neither that nor my question are visible in my homebrew newsreader NOR on their web interface.

I did some investigation using Synapse which is why I know XOVER is stuffed.

If you're still getting stuff Xana must use an alternative method to me, the web interface and Thunderbird. Do you have a link for Xana's source?

Thanks - I've downloaded it and I'll have a look later on see if it finds the missing posts, if so then find out how!

I don't think it does - don't use it myself but number of Embaracadero
posts refer to needing to un- an re-subscribe even with Xananews.

I know my thunderbird required that in order to start getting new messages

It usually just seems to need a reboot. I recall somebody in the know
once saying it's heavily customized (from original 3rd party product) so
my guess is its fairly old version and EMB is not putting any effort
into getting it updated to update to newer version.

Then again it's not getting that much traffic from what i see - i'm
estimating hundreds of posts per day only - so it likely is big pile
like you said to being with.

They did 2 restores (first from 2 weeks ago and then somebody must have
gone WTF and then another restore from last week).

I downloaded it, but to compile I'd need to install a lot of components into my nice stable D2006, and since the earliest version referenced is D2009 it might not even be compilable Frown

Its a bit of an imposition but can you post the executable to the binaries for me please?

Disregard the request, I managed to find a executable version on line .
