Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | Has something happened to the CodeGear newsgroups. I use an off-line reader and haven't been able to download anything for several days now.

Thanks for telling me. From their announcements newsgroup ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Frazier wrote: I am sorry to announce that during our recent server outage we have to revert to a backup. Please be aware that you may notice some threads and replies will be missing and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Many of you using NNTP may have to unsubscribe and resubscribe to your group list to resync with the message index. Once you re-download all should be good. Again, this is only the 2nd data loss of any kind we have had in the almost decade and a half I have been admin and I truly apologize. While it is a great track record, we never like to be in this scenario. We fought a valiant battle to save what we could. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So from this I deduce that whilst they can send loads of emails out selling new products they can't be bothered to send one out for something like this. Also what sort of backup means that they've had to renumber all the messages which is how I read it. Roy Lambert |

LOL! I wish that were true. I just double-whammied myself! Just ported one of my applications from D2007 to Delphi XE, which created it's own set of interesting quirks, and on top of that the same application was ported from DBISAM to ElevateDB. That was actually the easiest part, On top of that, I just purchased a new "poor man's" server...a high-end mini-tower desktop with Win7 Professional (which I have on my development machine) but never needed to install a service on a Windows 7 OS. Thanks to a suggestion from Tim I did some further research and found my answer. Guess it was actually a triple whammy! -- Jan Ferguson Roy Lambert wrote: > J.B. > > > Maybe Delphi XE is so good no one has any questions <vbg> > > Roy Lambert |

JonD | The lack of good backup is amazing... my web host does
incremental backups every 4 hours (at least that's what I remember. I would assume that would mean almost zero lost data? Its not just the fact that some data has been lost but it also appears that the message ids have been slagged and that you have to re-register I'm also astounded that they couldn't be bothered to email people and let them know. Logic goes People use newsgroups Newsgroup crashes Repair things in a way that means you have to re-register Post message on newsgroups to tell people they have to re-register Off-line users will discover the above by telepathy no need to email them Send out more please buy from us emails Roy Lambert |
