I know you lot know the answer to everything (not the 42 one though) - I've seen a brilliant presentation on the web - it looks like a combination of powerpoint with a synched audio track.

Any ideas what could have been used to produce it. As always freebies are to be preferred.

I've stared at this message for a couple of days wondering who will respond
to it and what they would say.  I'm thinking that no one really knows how to
respond to it!  Wink

Roy, you're a fairly smart guy from other messages I've seen, but without
seeing the "brilliant presentation" ourselves how are supposed to have any
idea what tool was used to produce it?  It could've been Microsoft Movie
with a good sound track (I've produced YouTube videos with it).  It could've
been some high-end Adobe publishing application.  It could even have been
the "Presentation" tool in OpenOffice, given enough patience in aligning the
sound track to slide transitions.  Who knows, even Macs have been known to
utilize presentation software on occasion! (No one flame me--I'm being just
a little sarcastic.)

If you had asked for preferences on presentation generating tools, or told
us some more about the presentation (like it had gold stop/play buttons or
something) we might be able to help a little more.

Perhaps you intended to give us a link so we could see this wonderful
presentation you saw. But without it, it's really anyone's guess.

Cheers!

Fair points - it was more in the nature of a fishing expedition rather than a "this is the one for me - if only I knew what it was" type of post.

The web site is selling-essentials.com - the problem is you have to register which is why I didn't post the link before.

Ah!  Can you tell what format the presentation is in?  Is it a flash movie?
Or a YouTube-like thing?  What kind of controls show up?  Can you take a
screen shot while it's playing, or is the question more about how did they
put together the experience of it regardless of the format?

I saw a presentation at one of its links at RapidLearningInstitute.com.
That was likely done using PowerPoint or some similar slide-show generation
tool.  The best presenters (so I'm told) record the video and audio
separately and fine tune the breaks and paste together the audio along with
music tracks to perfectly match the pre-recorded video.  That enables them
to produce a very nice and polished presentation video.

You can use your favorite slide-show presentation program (e.g. OpenOffice
or PowerPoint) to create the slides and Audacity, a free but very popular
and powerful audio recording and editing software.  Microsoft Movie Maker
(also free) does a nice job of blending video and photos together with slide
transitions and sliding text and music tracks.

Of course, there's tons of stuff on the Apple platforms--I just have no idea
what they are.  And Adobe has expensive tools for doing this type of thing.
But there's an increasing amount of power in the free stuff these days!

Hope that gives you some ideas.

It looks like a PowerPoint presentation (its their sort of slide in update effect) with synched audio playing in a frame and with a sidebar for navigation.

I'll see if I can do a screengrab later today.

I did something sensible - right clicked on the site and found its using Adobe Flash Player which gives me a starter for 10 as to what was used to produce it.

There are lots of tools out there that can produce Flash files as an
optional output.  And there are other tools that can convert to Flash.

I've always used Camstasia Studio and liked it very much (not free, though).

Roy,

You know, it helps to get the damn name right - it's Camtasia Pro, not
Camstasia Pro.  I'm just a big idiot... Wink

Once I'd figured out it was using Flash Player that was one of the first to come to mind.
