XE3 C/S db access limitations |

Raul Team Elevate | Roy,
The C/S EULA clause has been retracted as per NG - though one should check the EULA just in case they did not do a bait and switch. I was looking at what's new and calling it XE2 is appropriate - there is nothing useful i can see for me. We only use VCL and delphi and there is nothing new. I will never use firemonkey and prefer to use XCode for ios/mac so the product is more than underwhelming at this point - they really should have not shipped this for another year and actually put something worthwhile into it. Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Raul,
<< they really should have not shipped this for another year and actually put something worthwhile into it.>> They have to - it's for those guys like me that always skip one or 2 releases, so this is intended for 2010 / XE users I think I'll pass this one, as I have XE2, unless I decide to explore something new like Android development or so ... -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

I'm not sure about that <<Delphi® XE3 Professional is designed for developers building high-performance PC, Mac, GUI, and touch-screen/kiosk applications with embedded and local database persistence. Delphi XE3>> <<Embarcadero® RAD Studio XE3 Professional is designed for software developers and teams building PC, Mac, kiosk and mobile applications with embedded and local database persistence>> >I was looking at what's new and calling it XE2 is appropriate - there is nothing useful i can see for me. > >We only use VCL and delphi and there is nothing new. I'm still on D2006, and since I neither need nor want unicode I can't see anything much to make me upgrade. If you could generate for Android I would have thought about it. Roy Lambert |

Raul Team Elevate | AFAIK the Android support is not in XE3 - it's part of the new mobile studio or such and not out til 2013. You get field test (i.e. alpha version) if you buy XE3 but why bother !? All i have is NG postings but it looks like separate product (for Delphi at least - no idea if part of Rad Studio).
Considering the mess FireMonkey was Phonegap or native solutions are only ones we're even considering for mobile. We looked at FM for iOS and went with XCode and it was lot easier than expected. The sharing of code would be nice but reality in our case is that there are so many differences (e.g. screen sizes, etc) and so called business logic would be on server side anyways (web services) that writing a native iOS and Android app (or HTLM5) i think will be easier and quicker for us (and we'll be able to instantly get support for new features with native tools). <<I'm not sure about that>> These looked like marketing lines. I have not bothered to download bso can't access EULA but issue was EULA prohibiting using it for remote DB access - so you could not use DBISAM/EDB for example with pro. << I'm still on D2006, and since I neither need nor want unicode I can't see anything much to make me upgrade. See my other posting to Fernando on Android - i think Android is still ways off.. Raul |

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Raul,
<< AFAIK the Android support is not in XE3 - it's part of the new mobile studio or such and not out til 2013. >> Baaah, I heard that from Embarcadero, at the XE2 presentation in Lisbon, that Android support was expected to ship with XE3... Yeah I'm a believer Not that it bothers me as much, I cant see a market for my kind of business in 1,99€ applications, but I was curious about it ... -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |
