Is there an evil spirit in Delphi? |

Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | Is it just me or does Delphi sometimes maliciously change code that hasn't been touched for weeks so that things stop working?

The more recent versions of Delphi have a History directory where you can compare the code changes that have taken place over the last 'n' saves. And there are excellent free utilities like WinMerge that will show you the differences between sets of source files (or other text files). Or you can call in Paranormal Investigators to see if your computer is possessed by an evil spirit. After watching some of their shows with them racing around in the dark with night vision cameras listening for undecipherable whispers and coming up with nothing, I think investigating your PC would be a big improvement. Once in a while we get a flyer in the mailbox, offering several services, among which putting spells on someone and removing them. If the lad were smart, he'd first only offer the putting of spells service, then wait a month, then propose the removal service. |

>Only on your computer, Roy. Actually no. I have seen other posts refering to this on the Emb newsgroups. Its mainly property related and I suspect something to do with defaults and the dfm streaming into and out of file. Roy |

As I posted to David it seems that it generally affects the dfm rather than the pas file and I suspect something to do with property defaults. >Or you can call in Paranormal Investigators to see if your computer is possessed by an evil spirit. I like that idea - do I get paid if they show the investigation? Roy |

I look forward to it - I'm sure I can find a neighbour who speaks French even if it is with a Scottish accent. >If you use any of his services, don't ever ever mention my name. Don't >even think it. Please. If he's anything like a self respecting wizard he must do blessings as well - don't you want one of those? Roy |

Barry >As I posted to David it seems that it generally affects the dfm rather than the pas file and I suspect something to do with property defaults.< It may have to do with the creation order of the components on the form. Another db product I used (not Tim's) had a strict order in which to drop the components. So if you later cut and pasted these components and you relied on the settings in the object inspector, it may fail to start. That's why I always initialize the database components in the correct order when the data module is created. BTW, the utility I mentioned also compares DFM text files. >>Or you can call in Paranormal Investigators to see if your computer is possessed by an evil spirit. But they'll need a demo tape first. I'll be over after midnight with my night vision gear and camera equipment. The scratching and moaning you hear below the floor boards will just be me going through the duct work, so don't worry about it. P.S, you don't have a loaded shotgun like the guy in my last adventure, do you??? I forgot to tell him I was coming over. Barry |
