I have begun work rewriting my query generator. It started life with DBISAM, was migrated over to ElevateDB and is now being totally rewritten as part of my TMS removal policy.

When its complete (I'm using Tim style timetables - it'll be done when its done - several months at least) if anyone's interested I'll post a copy to the binaries.

It will remain, as it is now, fairly simple. It will generate only SELECT queries and where possible filters. It will handle JOINs, selecting the fields to be listed, GROUP BY and ORDER BY clauses. It will also allow for column transformations (eg CAST) and virtual fields. It will depend on the programmer creating a settings file / configuring a component (design time editor in progress) to limit what the use can do.

The user interface will be spreadsheet stye where they can specify the WHERE clause linking bits together by AND/OR statements, list the columns they want and specify order and grouping.

It will end up being highly specific to ElevateDB and will come with a range of inplace grid editors.

I know there are a number of good commercial components out there but 1) my users like the spreadsheet style approach and 2) they always strike me as programmer orientated not end user tools.

If anyone is interested please post here.

If you think there's something a query generator really should do you can let me know here as well.

If you have some great ideas about the user interface I'd like to hear them - I can always learn.

Roy,

I've been meaning to ask you. Why do you have a "TMS removal policy"?
