I'm a bit puzzled as to how to drive this. I'm developing a script and I (obviously done deliberately for testing purposes) leave a bug in (eg duff field name).

The thing stops - fair enough. I correct the mistake (assuming I can figure out what it was) click Cancel and nothing happens. I have to press Continue, Unprepare and Execute.

Am I doing this right?

Cancel is for cancelling the execution of the script under normal conditions
(SET PROGRESS and ABORTED()):

What you want is Stop (Ctrl+F2) from the Script menu.
