Hello:

Has anyone done any benchmarks of large encrypted tables vs non-encrypted?

I haven't and I don't recall seeing any. My decision to use encryption on some tables was based on the fact that I'm storing personal data and that's become a sensitive topic.

I think I saw in another post that Hedley (not sure of the name) was going to do some.
Hedley, if you did can you post your results?  I'm really curious as to how significant a
hit it imposes.

Hi Dale,

I'm afraid that I never actually got around to benchmarking - I just went ahead and
encrypted the sensitive tables. That said, I have found that the performance is still
acceptable.

It shouldn't be too hard for you to knock up a quick test app and fill two identical
tables with the same test data, then encrypt one and not the other and try some SELECTs,
INSERTs, UPDATEs and DELETEs to see what the difference is.

Hedley
