Tray icon - server stats... SOS |

durumdara | Dear Support!
Now we migrated the first big corporation from DBISAM to EDB. The main problem that edbsrvr.exe ignore the ini file, and the "No User Interface" is not working Remote Desktop - the tray icon vanished. These servers are virtual, so they have only way to control the server that show and modify it with Remote Desktop. The application mode starts the GUI, and I can see the connections, statistics, etc. When we start this from local machine, we see the tray icon. But from Remote Desktop the tray icon not visible. Same problem we saw with Cobian Backup. But this is very-very wrong, because in this place we have high usage, and we want to check and compare with DBISAM usage... So what we can do to make tray icon visible, or get statistics from server. Thanks for your help: dd |

Please be more specific with what the environment is. Vista and higher do not allow the use of the system tray icon for services, so you can't use it like that. You can use the ElevateDB Manager to view available sessions, etc: Click on the name of a remote session node in the left-hand treeview, and then click on the Manage Server Sessions task link -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

The notebook where we opened the RDesktop have Windows XP OS. The Cobian Backup Icon is on, only EDBSrvr not. May this caused by that "Log user" is not hooked, or hook is not working with RDesktop? durumdara | Hi!

The system tray icon works fine from here using Remote Desktop to access a 2003 R2 Server running the EDB Server as a service from a Windows 7 desktop. However, I'm using the /admin switch to log in to the console (in XP it's the /console switch) as the administrator. >> Now we can tested it. If local machine used to EDBSrvr (with interact to desktop), the icon visible. When we use a local user for start the service (with admin group membering!), the icon is not visible. Why? What right we need to add to this user, or group to set icon visible? Thanks for your help: dd |

Only the special Local System account can interact with the desktop. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Note: In hungarian Delphi developer list they are said that is a security hole in "interact with desktop" function. I don't know, what they are thinking about it, but as I see, other programs splitted into two part: the service, and the tray app, and they communicate... I want to tell you to you know about it (may it help you). Sincelery: dd |

I could be wrong, though. ElevateDB Server has an option to turn off the Interact with Desktop, and then you can simply use the ElevateDB Manager to manage sessions, etc. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
