Thread edbmanager (2.03 Build 19) slow refresh?
Thu, Aug 12 2010 4:06 PMPermanent Link

George

I upgraded to EdBManager 2.03 from Build 13 to Build 19, and also the
Server.  I then replaced edbSrvr.exe and  edbmgr.exe in my work/test
environment.  When I use EdBManager to access the remote server, the
EdbManager is very slow to refresh when you click on objects within the
session.  For example, once the session is connected, then i click
Databases -> tables -> doubleclick(Table Objects), it took almost a minute
before the properties for the object to be displayed  (I have unchecked
Load/Show Object Dependencies).  At first I thought it was a network access
problem but the network is OK.  Have anyone experienced the same with the
new edbManager Build 19?  or should I try looking more on my setup?

Thanks,
George Patena

Is this over a LAN or a WAN ?  For a WAN, just un-checking the Load/Show
Object Dependencies and making sure that the SQL window is not visible
(Ctrl-Alt-S opens it).   Both of these features will cause catalog queries
to be executed every time you click on an object.

Tim,  this is over WAN.  I just overlooked the SQL window was visible and
once I had it closed, going through the objects in the database is fast.
Thanks a lot.

This is going to be cached in 2.04 Build 2 or higher (2.04 is out now),
along with the new custom attributes.  That should allow you to have the SQL
window open and still get decent performance.
