Enterprise and performance questions |

Stefano Monterisi | Hi Tim,
there are news on Enterprise release of EDB? Another question: Somebody have performance benchmark on query against Firebird, My Sql and SQL server? Any experience? There are areas where EDB shines on performance or all the other are better in query result time? Somebody have tested the same data on different databases? Thanks in advance... God job, Stefano Monterisi |

<< there are news on Enterprise release of EDB? >> I know that it's taking forever, and my apologies for that. I hope to have the new fail-safe single-file format done soon, and then I can start getting it ready for EDB 3.x. << Another question: Somebody have performance benchmark on query against Firebird, My Sql and SQL server? You should be able to conduct your own tests pretty easily using standard SQL statements. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Shane McCall | Tim,
If its too early to tell, I understand, but are there any plans for 3.x to have the necessary drivers to work with entity framework 4.0? Do you envision a server that can be run on Azure? << If its too early to tell, I understand, but are there any plans for 3.x to have the necessary drivers to work with entity framework 4.0? >> I'm in the process of making this switch. Essentially I've got to move the core engine stuff into a separate native DLL, and port the existing front-end code from the Delphi 2007 .NET compiler to Delphi Prism. I'm part-way through the port of the core engine, and then I can work on the front-end code. Once the front-end is in Delphi Prism, I can work on the EF code. << Do you envision a server that can be run on Azure? >> Probably not. A better bet, and more open option, is Amazon EC2. The problem with Microsoft, especially from our standpoint, is that they are (literally) trying to kill companies like us - they give away SQL Server for free in our product space, and make up for it on the high end, and all of their development products hobble competitor integration into the IDE in favor SQL Server. This is also true with Azure, which favors the usage of SQL Server. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
