Roy is right, that the meaning of the function is ambiguous ... i.e. one might expect it to work (as I did!) by retreiving the last auto-inc as in DBISAM, rather than retrieving the most recent autoinc of the current session.

It would be good to be really explicit about this in the help to stop us all messing up.

Roy,

This has been in the docs since it was introduced:

http://www.elevatesoft.com/manual?action=viewtopic&id=edb2sql&topic=LASTIDENTITY

"This function only returns the last identity value assigned for the
specified column for the current session. It does not reflect any identity
values assigned to any other session for the same table. Therefore, if the
current session has not inserted any rows in the specified table since the
session was first logged in, then the value returned will be 0."

Are you training to go into politics SmileyYour response does not relate to the request (well at least to me OLH does not mean a manual on-line at a website Smiley. There is no mention made of LASTIDENTITY in the on-line help in EDBManager, edb2dsdelphi2006.pdf or edb2sql.pdf  (at least my versions). If I'm expected to start looking things up in the manual on your website I shall start screaming!

Sorry, I probably forgot to rebuild the on-line help for the last build, so
it didn't make it in.  All help/manuals come from the same source, so when I
say that it's in the manual, I'm stating that, at the very least, the most
current version on the web site has the information.  I usually don't forget
to rebuild the manuals with these changes, but these enhancements were
included in a build, not a new version, which is unusual.
