Hi Folks,

I would like to know about the new features introduced in 2.12 , so can start taking advantage of it right away, but I couldn't find any info. I've searched these forums and the announcement link, but no luck. Any suggestions?

At the top of every product download page is a link called Release Notes,
which will take you directly to the release notes for every version of EDB
ever released.  That is where the changes/improvements are detailed for
every minor release.

For example, for the VCL trial version:

http://www.elevatesoft.com/download?action=info&category=edb&type=edbvcltrial&majorversion=2&version=2.12

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Maybe I don't need new glasses after all Smiley

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's missed this. I even went so far as emailing Tim asking if he could add a link into the announcements emails so I could check out the changes before installing.

The new "SchemaObjects" features are fantastic, particularly the ability to generate difference SQL comparing schema.

The notes mention that EDBMgr 2.11 shouldn't be used with EDBSRVR 2.12 because of the extensions to the schema objects. No other issues between 2.12 and 2.11 are mentioned, so I guess / hope it is OK to:

* Build an app with 2.12 components that accesses a 2.11 SRVR.
* Run a 2.12 SRVR and have it accessed by an EXE built with 2.11

(provided you aren't referencing the new features in any case)

Glad you like it.  I'm going to extend it a bit further to allow for general
database comparisons also that just show the changes in a list view in the
EDB Manager.  The ALTER stuff is good, but it doesn't capture all of the
detail of *exactly* what changed in some cases.

Just to clarify, it says the opposite: you can't use the 2.12 EDB Manager
with older servers.  You *can* use a 2.11 copy of the EDB Manager (or
earlier) with the 2.12 EDB Server.

Yes, that will be fine as long as, as you say, you're not trying to
reference any of the newer system information columns/tables.
