EDBServer 2.12b2 (WinXP service install error) |

Alvaro | Hi all:
With 2.12b2 EDBServer server, to try to run as a service on WinXP SP2, gives a Kernel32 error and aborts the installation. If I run it as a Win32 program (not service), works Ok. Something I read in the forum about rebooting the computer with WinXP and EDBServer 2.12b2, but did not find information about what I'm reporting now. It happens on three different PCs with WinXP SP2. thanks Alvaro |

Alvaro | Forgot to say that the version I try to install as a service is EDBServer 2.12b2 -->Unicode<--.
thanks Alvaro |

Raul Team Elevate | It works fine on XP SP3. Any specific reason you're using SP2? Otherwise a full error message might be value though if you can i would start by updating the XP first. <<It works fine on XP SP3.>> Raul: Thanks for answering my question. The upgrade to SP3, does not depend on my decision, because they are the customers' PCs. I'll tell them to do the update. In my office I have all machines with Win7 (32 and 64), so we had not had that problem before. On WinXP, EDBServer Unicode (32bit) have this problem but if I try to install the service with EDBServer Ansi (32bit), works Ok. Thanks again Raul. best regards Alvaro |

Install 32bit Unicode EDBServer on a Notebook with WinXP SP3 and it worked as it you said. I'll wait for my customers to install the SP3. I write an application on EWB so I need the Unicode version of EDB. Thanks regards Alvaro |

If you're sure that you're using 2.12 B2, then email support@elevatesoft.com and open a support session for this. I'll have to install an image of XP SP2 on a virtual machine and find out what's going on. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

I confirm that is the version 2.12b2. As I told Raul, I did an installation on a Notebook with WinXP SP3 and install Ok. I also report the error "FastMM" and to build 2 was solved. The problem now is that EDBServer 2.12b2 Unicode, I can not install on WinXP SP2 as service. (WinXP SP3 Ok.). ANSI version, install as service Ok. Both 32bit Thanks Alvaro Pass the report to support. |

Per email: Are you installing/starting the EDB Server service using an administrator account ? You can't install/start services unless you're an administrator. I tried it here with XP SP2 as an administrator and it worked fine. When I try it as a normal account, I get the same error as you (expected), which is due to the user not having the correct rights necessary to work with services. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

I did an upgrade on the client machine to SP3 without switching users, I could install the service without problems. When had the SP2, the user was the same and also had administrator rights, however I could not install the service. I will install the other two machines SP3, then EDBServer as service works Ok. I'll see if I can take the customer a program to capture the screen in order to send you the error when trying to install under WinXP SP2. Both have the Administrator user with administrator rights. It strikes me that with SP3, without changing anything about users, works well. On the other hand if I try to install EDBServer ANSI, Ok installing the service. If I did not have Administrator rights, according to what you say, it could not install. I always refer to the version of ElevateDB 2.12b2, 32 bits. In any case, I can send the edbsrvr.exe in question, to try the same setup as me. If time helps me, I will try to send you the screenshot. If not with SP3, I'll have just as the expected result. My idea was not to install, because the machines are not mine and partly because WinXP SP3 on the machines of my customers is very "heavy". The issue is that they are old equipment. thanks regards Alvaro |

Both have the Administrator user with administrator rights. If it's a windows error message then just copy the error into clipboard (Ctrl+C) - all built-in windows error dialogs allow that. > My idea was not to install, because the machines are not mine and partly because WinXP SP3 on the machines of my customers is very "heavy". Seriously - how old are the machines? I never noticed that SP3 is any slower than SP2 at the time. Do note that we're talking OS that is 12 tears old and releases that are 9 (SP2) and 5 years old respectively and are out of mainstream support. Microsoft extended support is still valid til next year but i think you need SP3 to be able to be up to date on security patches. Raul |
