Raul: Thanks for your suggestion, which I share. I contacted Tim, via email and try to get my clients upgrade to Win7 Pro, with a corresponding upgrade of machines.
The PC's are Pentiun DualCore, with 2 GB of RAM. Do not use it as a dedicated server. ElevateDB is used by four networked PCs, for now.
They are also used as a workstation, so we are limited in performance.
My experience with SP3, was in an IBM Notebook with WinXP Pro And really when I upgrade to SP3, it felt "slow". Not know the technical reason. I mention this from the point of view of user and without changing any settings, mainly antivirus. I use Avast licenses for a long time and I think the lighter and powerful antivirus.
For now and upgraded to SP3 a machine and it worked fine edbsrvr.exe service installation.
Thanks for your concern
regards

Alvaro,

<< In any case, I can send the edbsrvr.exe in question, to try the same
setup as me. >.

Unless you recompiled the server, then there's no need: I'm using the exact
same 32-bit Unicode server that was shipped with 2.12 B2.

Alvaro,

<< It strikes me that with SP3, without changing anything about users, works
well. >>

Have you tried the 32-bit Unicode server with a fresh installation of XP2
SP2 on a different machine ?  That should tell you where the issue lies.

Tim:
I have not tried on a "clean" installation of WinXP. Actually when I refer to three machines. This machines are installed in different places and correspond to different customers.
One of them has a license GGK (acquired after purchase of the PC). The other two on WinXP Pro, came preinstalled with SP2 included.
As found spare time, I promise to do a test on a WinXp Pro SP2, "newly installed" to clear doubts.
With SP3, just as I said Raul, works well.
For now I solved the problem as documented in the previous comment.
Thanks for your concern. Whenever I get the "clean" installation and test, I publish the result to the forum.

Thanks very much.  It will be interesting to see what the results are.  If
it still doesn't work, then either I've got magic fingers or I'm not testing
it correctly here. Wink

Tim:
You've got "magic fingers" and you testing it correctly. I found in my office for a HD with Windows XP SP2 that by not wearing much.
Just like that I found, install it on a PC and then install the server ElevateDB service.
To my surprise ... worked well.
Then check to see if the user had administrator rights. That was Ok.
I think there's something else in WinXP settings EDBServer makes it impossible to install as a service, as this WinXP that probe, must have at least 5 years installed. The difference is that it is a license that came with a PC on CD, not preinstalled.
I have no clear because this behavior. Because it works on some PC's and other PC's no.
As I said, I've solved with SP3, but .....
Do not think it takes to try a freshly installed Windows XP.
As promised, this is my report.
Best Regards

My guess is there's some specific configuration being done at that site for
privileges, etc. and that is what is messing things up.  The fact that it
works with a standard install indicates that this is the case.
