No problem. Its mainly that I've never felt the need for c/s before, and I'm still not sure I do. My main app will be so "chatty" that I'm not even sure it will benefit from c/s. That's one of the things I want to find out.

I too have not been big on C/S use - mainly because the databases have
been local to a particular install of the software. But I did do C/S
for one database that was fairly critical to keep wholesome, and I felt
that by allowing only the server to touch the actual files, it would
mean network issues couldn't break the data. Worked well (and 3 users,
so "free").

So your best best is to keep looking at connection list and see which
ones stay around as you run and enter/exit from your app.

Hard to tell from here. You need to start with usual - see if any of the
logs (windows and/or edbserver) help to narrow things down. Otherwise
see if you can duplicate steps again.

Sound comment and advice, but in c/s mode when the server isn't running you don't get a log Surprised if you do I don't know what it is Frown

Had a look through the Windows logs and couln't spot anything there. It would probably help if I know just what to look for rather than scrolling through and hoping something would stand out.

Understood. I have only created one application for a friend, not using
C/S, with EDB for his desktop computer. I felt like a fish out of
water. Otherwise, all my apps have been C/S just like they were with
DBISAM. However, my apps are generally vertical market law enforcement
applications used on networks and need the protection of C/S.

Having been a law enforcement officer for over 32 years, before I
retired last November and turned my company into a full-time operation,
I can tell you that most in law enforcement are technologically
challenged and would think nothing of turning off their computer with
an active "dirty" record. I had that hapen with a small company I wrote
an app for when their daughter turned off the computer after dad asked
her to "shut down the application."  Then I had to argue that this
didn't fall under any warranty clauses since the daughter caused the
data corruption. I never did get paid for that service call but they
are no longer a client...in fact they are no longer in business.

Yep....I pretty much use C/S even for desktop applications so those
issues don't ever occur again.
