Tim,

We're about to begin developing a new application based on ElevateDB and Firemonkey.

In the short term we only expect to running on Windows platform, but be able to run on Mac and Android when ElevateDB is available on those platforms.

Is there is pitfall to avoid or some recommendations to take into account before starting developing? Wink

Regards,
Mario

In terms of non-UI components, and apart from platform differences in terms of binding UI controls to data, you develop the same way with ElevateDB and FireMonkey that you do with the VCL.

No pressure or anything, I think Elevate is doing a great job producing quality products Smile

But is there a ETA on ElevateDB on MacOS?

Is it possible to use EDB-DB, Query and Table components in FireMonkey? I thought they were platform specific to VCL, and you had to use "FireDAC" for data binding.

If it is possible to use the EDB components directly it would be great.

Yes since they are non-UI components.  However at this point only
windows platform is supported.

Aha, I see. So I can build FMX Windows apps with EDB data components, but if I add the Android platform it would fall over.

I guess there is probably a lot of Windows-specific code in the EDB Source (I haven't ever looked at it) so to be truly cross-platform all that would have to be rewritten.

Is that ever likely to happen Tim?

I certainly have some appetite for Andriod-based Apps, and will have to go the FireDAC route if no pure-EDB option is available.

Yes, it certainly will.  I announced in January (I think it was a bulk email) that we're doing platform expansion for EDB this year.  Right now I'm a little behind on it, about 2 months, but it's high on the list of priorities for EDB, especially since EDB is already coded to be fairly portable.

Excited to hear this. I have several customers interested in a Andriod Tablet based systems as it seems a more flexible and cheaper OS. It would be great to be able to develop these directly with EDB components.
