Thread EDBMgr - List Index Out Of Bounds and other strangeness
Thu, Dec 21 2017 5:20 PMPermanent Link

Kevin Koehne

I've got a user, that when they try to create a database using EDBMgr, they get a "List Index Out Of Bounds (0)" error. If I log into the server (e.g. as a different Windows user), I can create the database without error.
This is through the UI.

Another strange thing is that if we try to create a New query, the query editor window is black. It will still accept SQL, you just can't read it. Maybe that's a security thing Smile

Just to reiterate, if UserA logs in, this weirdness occurs; but if UserB logs in to the same computer, everything works fine. Both users have the same security levels as well. We're running the latest version of EDBMgr.

Thanks

This reads like a PC configuration / hardware issue rather than anything to do with EDBManager.

A few questions:

1. Are yourself and the other user using the same PC or different PCs
2. Does the other user have a strange theme set either in Windows or in EDBManager
3. If its different PCs and the configuration / EDBManager's settings are the same do they have different graphics cards (I had an instance once where one PC would draw a line and another wouldn't)

<<1. Are yourself and the other user using the same PC or different PCs>>
Technically it's the same PC. I should have mentioned, it's a machine that we remote into via Citrix. Even remoting in from the same machine (e.g. On my laptop, either user can log in. One works, the other doesn't)

<<2. Does the other user have a strange theme set either in Windows or in EDBManager>>
Nope

<<3. If its different PCs and the configuration / EDBManager's settings are the same do they have different graphics cards (I had an instance once where one PC would draw a line and another wouldn't)>>
Same PC

Are you both logging into Citrix as the same user or as different users? Its a long long long time since I used Citrix but  seem to remember different settings for different users.

1) Are you executing the CREATE DATABASE in a query window directly, or are you using the EDB Manager Ui for creating the database ?

2) If the latter (UI), when does the error occur, after you click on the OK button, or before the dialog is shown ?

Thanks,

It's in the UI, and happens when you click the 'OK' button to create the db

Hmm, other than the black query window, is there anything else that you can see that is different, such as different tables listed, or other types of metadata being different ?

Frankly, I cannot come up with a scenario in my head that explains this behavior.

Just the black window, and the OOB error is really the only difference. It's definitely a weird one. Maybe a permissions issue somewhere. I think my account has slightly higher privileges than the other user.

Yeah, definitely weird.  If you get some time and want to try to find the issue, I can send you a debug version of the EDB Manager that can spit out a call stack showing us where the error is.  Just send me a private email and I'll reply with the debug version.
