Michael Saunders | I am about to upgrade EDB from 2.24 to 2.28 ( All apps client server). I have checked the release notes and there appears to be no issues but I would like to confirm that apps built using 2.28 will run error free with the 2.24 server until I get time to upgrade my clients servers (all running as services)
Thanks |

You can find details of changes to EDB between 2.24 and 2.28 in the change-list documents which Tim shares. I note that the switch to large-file support in 2.28 means: "If you are using local ElevateDB sessions to directly access shared databases on a file server, you need to make sure that all client applications that are accessing the data are either updated to 2.28 or have their pre-2.28 TDBISAMEngine LargeFileSupport and/or LocalLargeFileSupport properties set to True. Failure to do so can cause the local ElevateDB sessions to not see each other's locks, which can lead to database corruption." -- Generally, EDB works fine if all users are using the same version. Updates / upgrades rarely include strongly breaking changes. Note that this means if you have an EXE that accesses the DB with a local connection and one that accesses it through EDB-Server, then the EXE should be rebuilt with the new components, and the clients should have the new EDB-Server distributed at the same time. |
