Peter Evans | Subject : Compiler targets for ElevateDB
Tim, Under a selected development environment of "Delphi, Lazarus, and C++Builder Developers" (Elevate Software webpage) I see :- • Borland Delphi 5, 6, 7 • Borland C++Builder 5, 6 • Borland Developer Studio 2005, 2006 • CodeGear RAD Studio 2007, 2009 • Embarcadero RAD Studio 2010 and higher • Lazarus 0.924 and higher. So far so good. Amongst the incident reports for Version 2.30 is listed :- "ElevateDB TDataSet Components Not Working Properly with FMX Grids on MaxOS". Does this mean ElevateDB works with MaxOS with FMX? Which product includes that? I am not clear on the compiler targets for ElevateDB and where FMX; and Android with FMX; and MaxOS (or similar) with FMX; and Linux with FMX; and Linux, fit in. Where can I learn about all the supported targets for ElevateDB? Regards, Peter Evans |

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Peter,
ElevateDB VCL supports Windows 32 bits, Windows 64 bits (VCL and FMX) and MacOS (FMX only). Other platforms are not yet supported by ElevateDB VCL. The issue you have seen reported is with one FMX componenent only: the FMX Grid is no working with EDB. -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Peter,
I forgot to mention that MacOS support is for Delphi XE2 and later only. -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

Peter Evans | With regards to "Lazarus 0.924 and higher".
What platforms are support? For example, Linux? |

Tim Young [Elevate Software] Elevate Software, Inc. timyoung@elevatesoft.com | Peter,
<< What platforms are support? >> Just Windows for Lazarus at this time. I will be working on more Lazarus ports after the Linux port for EDB is completed. There is a small caveat: the current EDB *does* support the 32-bit Libc units (Kylix-compatible) for the FPC/Lazarus compiler, but it depends upon running on a Linux system that has 32-bit support installed, which is starting to become increasingly rare, and isn't really updated by the FPC authors anymore. Tim, Thank you for your reply. My priority is having a Server (with a GUI) running on Linux. This is because of the lower cost of running a server on Linux versus running on Windows. My server already runs on Windows. I need to convert that to run on Linux with Lazarus. I can not use Delphi, as Delphi does not allow a GUI on Linux. You say you are working on a Linux port for EDB. Do you mean a Linux command line port for ElevateDB for the Delphi compilers? If that is the case do you have a time frame for availability? Regards, Peter Evans |

<< My priority is having a Server (with a GUI) running on Linux. We're moving away from having GUI's in our servers because most server environments don't allow them anymore. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

What months of the year do you mean by Spring? (Spring has different months depending on where you live...) |

What months of the year do you mean by Spring? (Spring has different months depending on where you live...) According to Wikipedia " in the US and UK, spring months are March, April and May". So, is that the months in the season that you mean, or did you mean in relationship to my region which is the period "September 1 and ends November 30"? I need clarification of this point please. I am confused when you state "we will be releasing a Linux version of the EDB Server in the spring, but it won't include a GUI". Will the Manager have a GUI? Will there be components, for example for the Table, that have a GUI? This is how development is done currently. Currently the developer drops a component on a form. Please note that the server I build and the server provided by Elevate Software are not the same thing. So to repeat my requirements : My priority is having a Server (with a GUI) running on Linux. This is because of the lower cost of running a server on Linux versus running on Windows. My server already runs on Windows. I need to convert that to run on Linux with Lazarus. My server is not the Elevate Software server. |
