Tim,
Feel free to correct any misconception I may expound here.

All,
This is NOT to put any pressure on Tim, rather, to get a feel for usage.

Tim supplies the sources for EDBUtilComps & EDBMgr as part of the ElevatedDB package.

As I understand it, Tim supplies the source on a 'All care but no responsibility' basis.  i.e. Use them at your own risk, they may or may not be changed without notice, and may or may not be supplied in the future.

I for one use EDBMgr as the basis for a general utility and EDBUtilComps are to rebuild EDBMgr.
I have updated the sources to D10.3.1 and made some changes for my own use.

Who else uses either of these two sources as part of their Applications?

Again, just curious.

Regards,
Ian

I've never done that and I never did it with DBSys. What I've always done is build into an application those utilities I think are a) useful and b) safe for end users.

Its a pretty limited set:

REPAIR
VERIFY
OPTIMISE

Add / delete user (I have my own options so don't use the database level user permissions)

Encryption password

Select which tables are encrypted

Full text indexing

I did a custom build of the DBISAM manager for one application where semi-skilled support people might have to fix things. I added a login menu item, and disabled some things that I thought particularly dangerous if not logged in.

In the end it was mainly me that used it, but it was handy having it there.

The TEDBReverseEngineer component from EDBUtilComps is critical for my database updates.

Same here - "TEDBReverseEngineer component from EDBUtilComps is critical for my database updates"

And I use EDBMgr regularly.

I use this extensively as well.

Ian,

I don't use them (though I think I should) but I do train some "power users" in using EDBMgr so they can use it to do certain key tasks (such as checking on JOBs running etc) which I haven't bothered to build into my own EXEs.

Very sloppy behavior on my part I know, but is does empower certain users in a useful way.
