I just wanted to take a moment to update everyone on where things stand with
upcoming releases.

EDB-DAC Product
==============

The ElevateDB ODBC Driver is done, and will go on sale tomorrow as the
EDB-DAC product line, where the DAC stands for Data Access Components.
Currently, the only component in this product will be the ODBC driver, but
within the next month the ADO.NET data provider will be added along with an
ODBC driver for Linux.  These will be slipstreamed into the existing product
and will be made available at no charge.  The ADO.NET data provider is
almost done and only requires another week or so of development, and the
ODBC driver for Linux is a simple port that will take a few days to complete
due to the fact that EDB was written with Linux IFDEFs in place for Kylix.
In addition to these two drivers, there is a definite possibility that this
product may be expanded further in the future with other ports.

You can view the migration pricing for the EDB-DAC product line here:

http://www.elevatesoft.com/scripts/order.dll?action=viewcatprod&product=edb

under the Special Offers links for each product type.  As was the case with
the VCL products, there are migration offers for both 3.x and 4.x users.

VCL.NET Support
==============

VCL.NET support has been done for a couple of weeks now, but I am just now
getting to updating the build system to accomodate the VCL.NET compiler
builds for BDS 2006.  Originally I stated that we will offer BDS 2005
VCL.NET support, but it looks like it will only be BDS 2006 support
initially.  I'll have to revisit the BDS 2005 support later and see if it is
worth the effort.  If you'd like to make a case for BDS 2005 support, let me
know.

Other Platforms
============

Our home page has a new poll up regarding alternative platforms for
ElevateDB:

http://www.elevatesoft.com/main.htm

If you get a chance, please respond so that we can prioritize the various
ports of ElevateDB that we plan on doing in the next few months.

Next Minor Release
==============

The next minor release will encompass the inclusion of the ADO.NET data
provider, the ODBC driver for Linux, and quite a few updates to the engine
itself.  There will be SQL script support, support for altering views,
procedures, functions, and jobs, progress update statements for procedures
and scripts, INSERT DEFAULT support, pagination support for result sets, and
several other minor improvements to the EDB Manager.

1.04 B3
======

The next build should be available by tomorrow.  I apologize for the delay,
but it was held up a bit while the ODBC driver was being finished up.

Tim,

Wow! You've obviously been *very* productive the past few months Smile

Could you please provide some more information about the ADO.NET provider:

1) Is it developed in C# ?

2) Is it ADO.NET 2.0 compatible, i.e. support for the db agnostic classes
(DbProviderFactories etc.) ?

3) Is it DDEX compatible, i.e. VS IDE integration ?

Don't worry - my plate is currently overflowing converting an app to TMS. One nightmare at a time is enough for me Smiley

What a major achievement for a minor release! Thanks (scripting was one of
the things that I was waiting for)!

Yesterday 2.7 of kbmmw middleware was released with EDB support. In the next
month I will do a lot of tests with the combination kbmmw/EDB. In the next
year we will port most of our kbmmw/dbIsam apps to the new combination. I
thank you for all the benefits we had with dbIsam over a long period. We
never had any complaint from our customers for years. We have a kbmmw/dbIsam
app with hundreds (real time) concurrent users with millions of records: no
downtime whatsoever! I like EDB already a lot , and I have a *strong*
feeling that we will have the same (actually many, many more) benefits! Keep
up the good work.

Regards, Harry

Hi Tim,

If I understand this correctly then if I buy the ODBC driver now I get
the ADO driver free when it is available.

Is this correct?

Ole,

<< Wow! You've obviously been *very* productive the past few months Smile>>

Well, the ODBC driver was really easy to port over, and I was actually able
to cut out over 6000 lines of code from the DBISAM version.

<< 1) Is it developed in C# ? >>

No, Delphi.NET with an eye to possibly using Chrome in the future, depending
upon how things go with the next version of Delphi.NET.   Right now
Delphi.NET is the only option to maintain the same-source Win32 <-->.NET
compilation situation that we have.

<< 2) Is it ADO.NET 2.0 compatible, i.e. support for the db agnostic classes
(DbProviderFactories etc.) ? >>

No, it is currently only 1.1.  Once 2.0 support is included with Delphi.NET,
we'll move forward.

<< 3) Is it DDEX compatible, i.e. VS IDE integration ? >>

Same issue as above with respect to VS2005.  It's a very tight situation
because we couldn't use two different sets of source code in two different
languages and be able to manage such a beast effectively, and we had to
offer Win32 support out of the gate or else we wouldn't make any money
initially.  Therefore, we had to lean on Delphi.NET to provide the initial
bridge until we can port the source code base (IFDEF) to Chrome or until
Delphi.NET matures further, whichever comes first.

Just to clarify - this is an upcoming minor release, not 1.04 B3.  Just
making sure that you aren't thinking that it will be available today. Smiley

Thanks very much.  And a general thanks to Kim for the EDB support in kbmMW.

Yes, absolutely.  And also the ODBC driver for Linux.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were "reading-challenged".  I usually
just reiterate things when it might be a mistake I might make. Smiley
