Ian Branch | Hi Team,
Does anybody have any knowledge/experience about having EDB Apps/Server hosted on somewhere like AWS? My Customer has asked me if this is possible and I have no idea. Regards & TIA, Ian |

Yes in a EC2 virtual windows server instance for example. It's not different than any other hosted vm service. Pricing does start adding up depending on instance size and uptime (i.e. 9-5 vs 24h) so estimate that first. Raul |

Ian Branch | Tks Raul,
So that's EBServer, Apps & Data all on the EC2 virtual server? I have pointed out the potential costs to the Customer. Regards, Ian |

Generally yes though of course depends on number of concurrent users etc. Basically all users would RDP into the server and get a virtual desktop and can run app from there - rdp allows remapping of local printers as well. If you end up with a single server then you could even skip EDB server and have app access DB locally (all users on same system basically). Note that somebody would need to manage general security of the server, patching, user accounts etc. If server is on public internet then have to be extra vigilant - at the very least use non-standard rdp port, manage logins or even do vpn only access to server. Definitely do regular backups stored off server. Assuming your app is windows one then there are also solutions to webify it so users can access using browser - not as nice as native web apps but pretty decent solutions to get off ground quickly. One solution i know is VirtualUI (https://www.cybelesoft.com/thinfinity/virtualui/) - we evaluated it and it worked OK. It makes your windows app easily accessible using just a browser by including their SDK and making small changes to some dialogs and printing. more $$$ though. Raul |

Hi Raul, The Customer already uses ThinFinity (VirtualUI) so it is good to hear that it will work in that environment. I will elt him know. Regards & TIA, Ian |
