Thread How reliable is ElevateDB?
Mon, Sep 3 2007 6:35 AMPermanent Link

"Jack Marsh"
I currently use DBISAM V4 with Delphi 7.

My application does need a database capable of supporting larger tables and
will need to move to ElevateDB.  However, it doesn't need to upgrade just
yet; but as I am starting a couple of new developers would prefer that they
learn ElevateDB rather than DBISAM and retrain at a later date.

Basically the only thing stopping me from making the transition at the
moment is a slight concern that ElevateDB might not be so robust as DBISAM
yet.  Does anyone who has made the move from DBISAM to ElevateDB for key
projects have any view as to whether or not this was the right decision?
Are we likely to encounter quality issues, or is ElevateDB already a stable
platform?

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,

For me there were a few issues in the beginning, But they were quickly taken care of by Tim. I have converted a Medical Application to ElevateDB C/S and there are no issues, the program has been running
smoothly in an office of about 15 doctors and nurses 24/7 with no problems.

I'll let others speak about their individual projects, but ElevateDB is very
stable at this point in terms of our automated testing, which also includes
regression testing for every bug found in DBISAM *and* EDB for the last 3
years.  The last couple of months have been spent primarily on stabilizing
EDB so that we can move forward with the 1.06 release and all of its
associated improvements.  1.06 is almost ready to go, so you can be sure
that I was confident enough in the existing 1.05 release to go ahead with
the 1.06 release.

I don't have that much to speak, but would like to highlight some thoughts about this support form:  sometimes this form goes crazy when
something goes wrong with a new release/build of EDB.  But 1.05 is very stable release.  I am still converting one big DBISAM3 application to EDB.
With this latest release EDB is solid as a rock.  But be aware that Tim keeps adding new features from time to time and this sometimes create some
bugs which I believe is a normal result for any new application with new features.  Therefore I would suggest not jumping to any release without
giving a time for bugs reporting.  I personally will suggest going live with 1.05 and testing future releases/builds before upgrading.  Actually this is
what I am planning to do.

This forum is becoming so quiet since the release of 1.05 (See my post http://www.elevatesoft.com/scripts/newsgrp.dll?
action=openmsg&group=16&msg=2760&page=2) this proves that 1.05 is really a solid release.  ANYBODY THERE?  Looks like everybody is having a
good time with 1.05Smile

Abdulaziz,

A quiet NG must be some kind of 'proof of stability' Wink

Tim, please put some 'little' bugs in 1.06, so that we can post again! We're
beginning to mis the social contacts Smile

PS I am going on a three week leave now (this is really my last mail before
we depart). When I am back: guess what I will be looking for right away?

Regards, Harry

Um, no. Smiley However, I will post a little screen shot of the EDB Manager in
1.06 with a script:

And you shall have it.  1.06 is getting very close to being done now.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer since I'm back to full-time work as of
tomorrow.
