We/you have to - they use completely different character sets and
collations.  However, you'll know really quickly when you're mixing the two
since EDB will raise an exception to that effect.

Nope, just erase the configuration file(s) and you can start over from

I tried everything, but it still does not work.
I erased every config file I could find and then started, following the
steps in the manual.
I faithfully created the directory for the tutorial (c:\tutorial),
created a database (tutorial) in path c:\tutorial\db.
I then click migrate database and there it is: my old friend: "ElevateDB
Error #1011 An error occurred with the parameter D".
I can provide you with a screenshot if you want...

Until now I was very content with your products, so there must be a
solution. Are you sure there is no registry key involved, or some hidden
setting I can erase??

Zip up everything that you have and email it to me.  I'm sure that there's
something simple that is causing the issue.

What I need is this:

C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Elevate
Software\ElevateDB Manager\edbmgr.ini

and the configuration file EDBConfig.EDBCfg from your configuration file
path.
