I thought I'd try sticking my problem JOIN into a view / procedure and see if it worked in there. I tried a View first and, after removing the mistakes from the sql I get an AV

Nope. But are they relevant? You do have the query which is not 368 lines long

I can't compile the query without the tables, therefore I can't reproduce
the error to see what the issue is.
