I'm hoping it will support AWE but only the Shadow (Tim) knows. Dave |

Tim Young [Elevate Software] Elevate Software, Inc. timyoung@elevatesoft.com | Dave,
<< I really hope you can do it. If you're successful I'd even go as far as erecting a statue of you in front of city hall. It won't be 10 miles high like that of Arthur Dent, but it would be the best snow sculpture in town. >> Snow sculpture, eh ? I could handle that, but it's got to be my internal mental image of myself, not the actual thing. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

With 64bit windows you need a 64bit application to address more than 2gb (Delphi does not yet have a 64bit compiler). So AWE will allow 32 bit applications to address all of the available memory that is in the computer by using memory paging. You could put 4x4gb sticks into the computer to give you 16gb. This allows the dbserver to perform more operations in memory instead of paging them out to the page file which is considerably slower because it involves disk access. So putting more ram on the dbserver will speed things up like building indexes and supporting larger tables etc.. I'm not sure but you might even be able to create a memory table that is larger than 2gb which would be great for webservers. Dave |
