Roy Lambert NLH Associates Team Elevate | I'm sure there is a way but how do you choose which index is to be used to display a table in EDBManager?

<< I'm sure there is a way but how do you choose which index is to be used to display a table in EDBManager? >> Just click on the column header in the grid. If there's an index on that column, it will cycle through the indexes as you click on them, reverting back to the primary key when the cycle is complete. I do need to see about displaying the active index name, however. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

I do need to see about >displaying the active index name, however. Near but not quite. My companies table has 6 indices (inc the primary key but exc FTI) and that only works for 2 of them - the primary key, and the column next to it _Name. That led me to play with moving the columns about and I have to say its entertaining. Companies has 24 columns and I thought I'd try to move _fkOrgType next to _ID to see if proximity to the primary key column in the grid was what enabled index switching. I gave up after 5 minutes. Columns I hadn't selected moved, the one I had selected moved but never where I wanted it. Roy Lambert |

So you're saying that it is not working that way ? << Companies has 24 columns and I thought I'd try to move _fkOrgType next to _ID to see if proximity to the primary key column in the grid was what enabled index switching. I'll check it out and make sure that it is working properly. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

>It works on the basis of the first column in the index. So you're saying >that it is not working that way ? Right. Just having another look the two indices that work are PK - primary key - integer and CompanyName - column varchar ANSI but index is ANSI_CI the others are varchar with both column and index ansi. >Okay, I'm seeing the same thing. I'll check it out and make sure that it is >working properly. Leave it - it'll make a great game Offer a prize to the first user that can move a column where they want it <vbg> Roy Lambert |
