What are you thinking of here? I thought they worked happily before stores. Scratches head a bit more - is this scripts etc manipulating files, not needed for scripts etc to work?

What do you mean by "they" ?  Scripts, or the administrative SQL statements
?

Previously, scripts could only work with files to the extent that the
administrative statements allowed them to.  They couldn't copy files, delete
them, etc. without using an external module to do so.
