Thread Config, Catalog and Databases

Hi All,

Could someone please explain the relationship between configuration file,
catalog and database. And how does each one effect each other?

I couldn't find anywhere in the help file that described each one. Can
someone tell me where in the help file I should read?

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Chris,

thanks for the info. That answered my question. I have another one.
If I create a new database using the ElevateDB Manager, how can I create the
database in the config file I want. I thought that specifying the
configuration file's "File Folder" and "Name" under the "Local
Configuration" for the session (I created a new session for this), would be
enough to specify which config file the database was created in.
What should I do to specify the config file to create the database in ?

Cheers,
Paul

You are correct - the configuration path and file name will be enough to
dictate where the database definition will be created.  The database
definition consists of the database name and the path to the database
itself.

What is making you think that this isn't working ?  Are you getting an error
message ?

Hi Tim,

thanks. It's all good. I was pointing the dbEngines ConfigPath at the wrong
folder, and when I set the engine active, it created a new blank config
file, which was why the database I thought should be in it, was not.

Thanks for the help,
Paul
