adam | I am just starting to set up EDB for WAN working of some staff.
I am planning to do it using Replication, but I am also planning to have a "repository" of the DB on our web-server as a back up. I don't plan to access the web repository actively ... it will basically be a back up. However, it still needs to be secure. I can see useful posts on this site on security & EDB & It seems very possible to harden its security for such use, but is there anywhere a unified resource / document about how-to maximize security, so I don't miss something important? In the on-line help I see sections about management of the Server etc., but I don't thin these really tell the whole story of security issues. Adam Brett |

<< I can see useful posts on this site on security & EDB & It seems very possible to harden its security for such use, but is there anywhere a unified resource / document about how-to maximize security, so I don't miss something important? >> The main thing to worry about in terms of security over a WAN is whether or not to use encrypted sessions. Do you plan on using a VPN, or just straight-up direct Internet connections ? If the latter, then make sure that you set the TEDBSession.RemoteCompression property to 6 and, if you want encrypted sessions, the TEDBSession.RemoteEncryption property to True. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

>straight-up direct Internet connections ? ... I could go either way to be honest. My first try will be VPN, but I have a second set of applications which could benefit massively from internet based db access ... they will come later. |

"Ian Branch" | Hi Adam,
Not sure if these are what you are looking for in one form or another but you might look at www.wissh.com and/or https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp Regards, Ian |

adam | These look very interesting, thank you. I have also seen and used a similar product
"GoToMyPC" which is excellent and (I think) similar. However, I am trying to do something a bit different from this. Adam |
