The only difference is the use of the asterisk (*) for wildcard string
matching in filters.  The rest is exactly the same.

Why not move filters over to % rather than * ?

Backwards compatibility.   Plus, the * syntax is just additional sugar - you
can still use LIKE instead if you want.
