RI cascades |

"Harry de Boer" | Tim,
Is cascading update / delete something we can see soon (as restrict is the only choice now)? RESTRICT will do in a lot of 1:n situations I have in an old dbIsam project that I am doing from scratch now in EDB, but for n:n relations the CASCADE option is most needed there. Regards, Harry |

The issue is an architectural one with respect to how the transaction locking works currently. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

"Harry de Boer" | Tim,
-What exactly is the "enterprise server version"? -Is (full) RI only in that or also in EDB standard? I know you are very busy with EDB development (1.03 o the way) and updating the docs. However, is it possible to give an estimated timeline on when certain things are 'planned' to come, such as RI, SQL scripts, EDBman enhancements, etc or is this just to difficult to say? >-What exactly is the "enterprise server version"? >-Is (full) RI only in that or also in EDB standard? I think this is going to be the c/s only version so that locking tables during a cascade is easier than in a mixed f/s c/s environment. Roy Lambert |

<< -What exactly is the "enterprise server version"? >> Sorry, it's our higher-end server version that I'll be working on later this year. It will be like EDB now, but won't do file-sharing, will have a single-file database, etc. << -Is (full) RI only in that or also in EDB standard? >> RI is present in EDB now, only without cascading support, only restrict. << I know you are very busy with EDB development (1.03 o the way) and updating the docs. << I think this is going to be the c/s only version so that locking tables during a cascade is easier than in a mixed f/s c/s environment. >> Correct. The good part is that it should be entirely identical to existing EDB remote sessions/client applications. Only the back-end will change. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
