Charles Tyson | The installation notes recommend that one uninstall the old version
before running the new setup, but the new setup now offers to uninstall the old version. 1. Is there any reason not to trust the new version's uninstall? I.e. is there any condition where I am better off doing a manual uninstall? 2. Could the setup program offer, as an option, to install into the old version's home folder? (Since it detects the old version, can't it tell that I want it to install into "e:\d2009\addons\EDB" without making me type that in?) |

We had to leave that text up there for a while until the new "automatic uninstall" version was in the field for a while. I'll make a note to remove it this week. << 2. I should be able to save the existing value before the uninstall and then use it again. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

I should be able to save the existing value before the >uninstall and then use it again. I thought that was what you kept having problems with. From an email exchange -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- << Installing additional utilities warned that the previous version would be installed but also lost the info on where it had been installed so wanted to install in C:\Program Files\ElevateDB Additional\Version 2 not C:\3rdParty\EDBUtils where I keep it. >> I looked into this, and unfortunately Inno Setup does not support re-using the existing information if the previous version is uninstalled first. Therefore, there's really no way to make this work the way that you want, short of modifying Inno Setup. We need to make sure that any existing version is uninstalled before the new version is installed, or we risk there being conflicts with the package names, etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you sorted it now? << I thought that was what you kept having problems with. From an email exchange >> I didn't think of saving the value in the registry and then re-reading it - that was the problem. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
