EDB Manager tiny suggestion |

Adam Brett Orixa Systems | The Tree layout of EDB Manager is good & intuative, but suffers when you have multiple tree-nodes open with large numbers of tables / stores etc. visible.
The only indication of the "position" of the user is the small tab labelled "<database-name> Properties" in the middle of the screen. Most of my databases have names like "Data" or "System". Which makes this label pretty useless. If the label instead included: "<session-name>\<database-name> Properties" it would be much more useful, and would give a really clear indication of "where" I am as a user. The more clear this location is the better, otherwise it is possible to run queries against the wrong database quite easily, which can be very bad. |

I'm having trouble figuring out just what you're referring to here, or to put it another way its like my wife's driving directionsHowever, what about the information on the status bar at the bottom right which shows session & database? Adam Brett Orixa Systems | >>However, what about the information on the status bar at the bottom right which shows session & database? Good point Roy. I still think it would be good to have a clearer indication of the users location in the tree, what I am talking about is something similar to the "bread-crumb" navigation you see in a lot of situations: Using the example of the screen I have attached, the screen area I have highlighted in red would read something like: FMCloud .. FMSys .. (VIEW) .. A_MainDelivery Rather than FMSys.A_MainDelivery Properties It just means you always can see whether you are in VIEWs, TABLEs, FUNCTIONs, PROCEDUREs and which session + database. The issue is that many of my Dbs have the same or similar names, so it would be really useful for me to know which session I am in. I take the point that the information is at the bottom of the screen already. I just never remember to look down there. |

A_MainDelivery > >Rather than > >FMSys.A_MainDelivery Properties Now I know what you're on about not a bad idea - shows how often I look at the tab caption. The only problem I can see is the size of caption needed. >It just means you always can see whether you are in VIEWs, TABLEs, FUNCTIONs, PROCEDUREs and which session + database. > >The issue is that many of my Dbs have the same or similar names, so it would be really useful for me to know which session I am in. > >I take the point that the information is at the bottom of the screen already. I just never remember to look down there. I learnt after performing and EMPTY TABLE on the live rather than development database. Thankfully my backups worked the night before. Roy Lambert |
