I need to get more serious about security on my amazon EC2 instance. I'm an old desktop guy so I'm used to installing norton or macafee but it seems like I need to use something more specific to the virtual machine.

I'm looking at one called Bitdefender and it seems to be what I'm looking for.

Has anyone used this - or is using something they like and can share a product name with me.

Thank you
Jeff

I would hope that the system would start from a point of total security, with only
the remote control ports open (and perhaps 80/443) through the firewall. Thus you
shouldn't need anything more. Certainly on my Azure virtual machine I had to open
ports specifically to allow other applications to talk.

I'd be very careful about adding anything more to a virtual machine than you need -
if it takes more processor, or does some update that locks you out, you may be in
trouble.

I'm with Matthew on this one:  just make sure that Windows firewall is set
up to only allow open ports for very specific needs, and that's it.  As long
as you do that, and don't do things like use client email solutions or
perform web browsing, then your server will be secure and you won't need any
3rd party software for security purposes.
