Thread Is WebBuilder the VB6 of the web?
Fri, Dec 5 2014 5:18 AMPermanent Link

Matthew Jones

I was listening to an episode of DotNetRocks last night, and although
it starts with the idea that HTML5 didn't win the "universal app"
solution, it also states that neither really has Xamarin yet. At about
26 mins in, Rocky says that perhaps the ideal would be "VB6 for the web
browser", though not VB or Javascript. Something that allowed you to
lay out forms, have some sort of flow, and good for line of business
apps. I couldn't help but email Tim about this - strikes me that
WebBuilder, particularly 2.0 from what we've seen - is exactly this.

How though can we help Tim get the word out to the bigger market? How
does one overcome the "it isn't Javascript" that will happen? (Yes, it
isn't Javascript, that's why it is so good!) I'd be interested in
thoughts on this - the more users there are, the better it is for us as
users too.

I was going to suggest sending Tim a list of all emails in your address book so he could spam them. Then I thought there's guaranteed to be someone who takes me literally and does just that so I'd better not.

I also don't know if Tim wants to ramp up the customer base too much just yet. A few hundred enthusiastic but not knowledgeable adopters could drive him to drink as well as distracting him a lot (mind you the $$$ would be nice I'm sure)

I presume that once v2 is out he wants to get a return on a year of
investment. Obviously no one wants it "now", but ideas take time to
form and make them happen. Maybe Tim should be on DotNetRocks - I think
it would be good, but no idea if it is even possible, or if he'd want
it.

However, I do think that WebBuilder is very powerful, and would be a
good solution for many line of business developers, as well as many
other applications.

I'm going to email Rocky when EWB 2 is ready and get him a copy, if he
wants.  I'm always happy to talk about the product, so we'll see if anything
comes from it.
