Which browser/version, and do you have QuickTime or a similar plugin
installed that can play media files like MP3s ?

IE8. No quicktime. Not sure about plugins, but I can usually see and hear
stuff on websites.

Works fine for me in IE8, but I also have QuickTime installed.

That may be true, but it may be that those websites are using Flash apps to
play the media.

This is a plugin issue, so you need to have either the Windows Media Player
or QuickTime installed and working correctly in order to have them play MP3
or video files from an embedded object in an EWB application.
