squiffy Telemix Ltd. | Just some things I've noted as minor irritations. All trivial, but thought I'd mention them.
It's possible I've misunderstood things. Corrections/pointers always welcomed. 1. Forum - ability to edit a post. I end up replying to myself over and over to correct my 8million MPH typing mistakes/omissions. 2. IDE mouse hover - shows pos/size tooltip but often gets in the way of what I'm doing. It's a duplicate of the info shown in the IDE (form status bar, bottom right). Maybe make it an option? Or have escape key remove it? I know I can move the mouse and click but I just find it annoying, like a buzzing fly (I did say these were fairly trivial ![]() 3. Component lock - when building complex-ish pages I often select a component by mistake to drag/drop, ruining my layout. Ability to mark the components as position-locked so they can't be selected. 4. If I create a proc along with its prototype but don't put any code between the begin/end, when I save the project it deletes both the prototype & the implementation. Pain if I forget to put a "Holding" comment in there. I understand why you do it, but maybe a menu option to tidy up empty code rather than intelligent guessing on saving? 5. Compile/deploy with a single keypress, or at least give deploy its own keyboard sequence. I can't test in the IDE for a variety of server communication reasons, so every test I make must be from a deployed app in another directory. I do that whole ctl-F9 then mouse click to deploy process about 500,000 times a day ... |

>1. Forum - ability to edit a post. I end up replying to myself over and over to correct my 8million MPH typing mistakes/omissions. Since I don't use EWB I can't say about those but this one I do have a strong opinion of. Editing a post should NOT be allowed. OK there are going to be typos, missing information, and "pressed the return key by mistake" or "ooops why dis I ask something so stupid" moments but it can reduce the usefulness of a support forum by allowing editing. Say you post something, 15 seconds later you realise what you'd done wrong and post a message saying. That then helps prevent others from making the same mistake. I never implemented the ability to autodelete or change a post when reading from the news server in my news client and its fascinating to see the editing that occurs in some newsgroups. Quite often the entire context of a thread would be altered if the edited post were all that remained. I might be willing to allow editing if no response to the original post had been received, but I'd worry that there might be some on the way that just hadn't arrived yet. As a personal suggestion you could try soaking your fingers in a valium solution - that might slow them down ![]() Roy |

Yeah, true. How about just appending, so you could write : "UPDATE - rascally autocorrect. I actually meant ' I urgently need to adjust my CLOCK.' without altering the original text? |

Good Idea, and we'll arrange it so the update is treated as a new post - just for convenience you understand ![]() Roy |

squiffy Telemix Ltd. | Haha, actually on re-reading that, I see what you mean. Might as well just post again

Just wanted to let you know that 2) mouse hover is probably going away at some point, in favor of a panel or something similar that shows more information in an easier-to-read and immediate way. Thanks for the suggestions, Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Hmm, that's a little non-standard. Just curious: is this just a personal preference, or have you seen this in another application ? Thanks, Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

AFAIK most major browsers support middle-click to close the tab (i know Chrome/IE/FF at least do ). I personally keep forgetting it's there - clicking the wheel does not feel completely "normal". It's handy though for those times you have lot of tabs open. Raul |
