My question is, what would it take for EWB to produce native Windows 8 applications? I expect it would have to be modified heavily, because all the user interface controls are provided by Microsoft, so as to keep the Metro style in tact.
It will be interesting to see if native Windows web applications will actually take off.

It depends - if they're using the HTML5 standard, which I assume that they
are, then it's just a matter of using HTML5 controls for everything, and
supplanting the rest with custom calls. If Windows 8 standardizes such apps
across mobile and desktop devices, then this could be a big boon to
standardizing HTML/JS-only applications.
