Ok, bragging about my new development machine purchase |

David | I've always used a laptop for my development machine. No surprises when
doing a demo, I have been known to fix code before a demo, and I can code or document anytime on the road. Last year I got rid of running Advanced Server 2003 on a dedicated machine and purchased a xw6000 dual xeon workstation to run AS 2003 in VMWare. Works like a champ and defragging, backups, and everything else is much cheaper because I'm running XP rather than a server OS. The xw6000 is a workhorse, blazingly fast, and solid as a rock. I could not be happier. I've been browsing the xw6000 machines on eBay looking for an extra gig of RAM. One night, @ 2 AM, I found a fantastic deal. Here are the specs... Hp xw6000 Dual 2.4 GHz Xeon processors 4 Gigs of ECC RAM 146 GB 10k RPM Seagate Cheetah UW320 SCSI drive Gigabit Ethernet DVD+RW Drive How much? $309 shipped with a buy-it-now! Oh yeah, I forgot one thing. The video card. nVidia Quadro FX 3000 dual slot AGP card with 256 Megs of VRAM I just purchased an ATi X1550 with 256 Megs for $95 and I can sell the Quadro on eBay for $280 or so shipped. So I'm looking to net the xw6000 for around $124. I'm installing Delphi 5 and 7 now. No, I am not looking forward to rebuilding my development environment but I'll make an exception in this case. |
