thanks to DBISAM I have been working on the same piece of software for the same client for 10 years.

Its business critical and I only originally sold them a licence so I am the only person who can do the work.

I'm currently on £40/$68 an hour for programming and support. I also manage their backups, network and servers mostly remotely.

I work off site and I am always scrupulous about the hours. The client is very appreciative and I never let them down. The last two years have been quiet with the recession but they are back in the money now and there's lots of work.

There are 200+ forms, 300+ reports and there can be hundreds of data sets open at any one time. I also link live into their accounts data and mix and match DBISAM data and Sage Data.

I originally got the job because of the cost advantage of DBISAM and its served me well. Never let me down and runs and runs. DBISAM has never bombed on me and runs 24/7 on MS Server 2003.

I'm 65 in a couple of months and this job will be a nice pension for me.

That's good to hear, and I'd like to add my thanks for such a reliable product. I
too have a client who's products I've written are very dependent on DBISAM
databases. I took over the project many years ago, and removed SQL Server and
popped in DBISAM. We went from major outages to a self-healing system that is much
more capable than when it started. Only once did I have a DBISAM problem that was a
bug in complex multi-threading, and Tim didn't wave his arms and say it would be
hard, but he took the whole project, cut it down, found the bug, and fixed it
within days. I couldn't have asked for more.

One day I must learn ElevateDB, but DBISAM has been so good to me...

You must, but at least to make up for your shortcomings you're a leading light with EWB

It is though what has made me very happy to pay the very reasonable maintenance fee
though.
